Research
We think the proof has to come before the product, so we've been building the methodology before a single tree is planted.
Trinity College Dublin
Our research partnership with Trinity College Dublin is backed by two Enterprise Ireland Innovation Vouchers.
Carbon and natural-capital accounting. The first voucher, approved in May 2026, funded work on how to measure and account for the carbon and natural capital a new native woodland creates.
Biodiversity. The second voucher, approved in autumn 2026, takes the same approach to biodiversity: how to establish a baseline and measure real uplift over time. This work is under way now.
The team: Prof. Jane Stout, Dr. Catherine Farrell and Dr. Martha O'Hagan (Co-Principal Investigators) and Dr. Laqiqige "Zhula" Zhu (Lead Researcher).
The NeighbourWood Restoration Standard
The research feeds the NeighbourWood Restoration Standard (NRS): an independent way to verify carbon (NRS-C), biodiversity (NRS-B) and water (NRS-W) outcomes from restored native woodland. It's designed to work wherever the model goes.
Our approach
We use conservative published figures until site data replaces them. We'd rather understate and overdeliver. Every claim will be independently verified and published.
